Trip to Tibet is a most exotic journey which offers you the chance to visit ancient Buddhist monasteries, enjoy fantastic views of the highest mountains, to talk to nomadic Tibetan pilgrims, to walk on world’s highest plateau etc. To many people a trip to Tibet is a lifetime journey. Tibet was opened to public as a tourist city in 1985. The infrastructure of the tourism industry is in most cases very basic though in 2006 the train to Lhasa is completed.

You are kindly suggested to notice, not expect the standard which you might be accustomed to back home. Just accept this land as it is, enjoy its ancient spirit, come as friend with open arms and heart and you’ll enjoy the trip and Tibet will linger with you forever in your mind.

What to wear

Casual clothing and comfortable walking shoes are the most for your trip to Tibet. Make sure to take warm clothing as it is quite chilly and cold during the nights and early morning.

Take from your home all possible personal things such as necessary medicine, cosmetics, toilet items, etc. Very often you could cannot find them during your trip to Tibet or would face hard time finding it.

 

Altitude sickness

As you travel over high land, you are likely to feel some of the minor symptoms and discomfort of altitude sickness like headache, loss of appetite etc until your body is properly acclimatize to the high altitude. It may take from few hours to days to get properly acclimatization depending on health condition of individuals.  Its not a really big issue getting acclimatization. But it is request to all the members to get the proper physical check up and health certificates for those who are making tour to Kailash region and trekking. It advise to all individuals to stay hydrate as much as possible. As it is necessary for the proper acclimatization. We also suggest you to take some diamox tablets(pelase consult your physician before making further decision in drug). Currency and Exchange Rate

The unit of currency in entire China is Yuan (RMB ). the standard rate of exchange so far to our knowledge is 6 Yuan for a dollar. you can exchange your money at the Bank of China in Shigatse and Lhasa. Many hotels does exchange the money. All major credit cards are accepted in Shigatse and Lhasa. It is advise to exchange the money in Lhasa or major towns before making further tour in remote region.

 

Weather & Tourism Seasons in Tibet

 The best season to visit Tibet is from April to November. The climate during this season it best for the travelers. That doesn’t mean you can’t visit in the Winter time, there are increasing number visitors in Winter, but Tibet can offer limited options for travelers in winter. The best to visit Tibet is in the month of August and September.

Sun radiation is extremely strong in Tibet due to its altitude. The most popular seasons to vist eastern Tibet is the month of may, june and September. The annual raining season falls from month of May to October with the average of 420.5 mm. Its usaully rains in everning in Lhasa and Shigatse area. Some time rain may course road blockage and course inconvenient to travel but it offers great scenic with the rainbow on the grass land.

Lhasa – Shigatse – Lhatse – Tingri – Nyalan
The roads that connects these places is called Friendship Highway. The high way is in good shape and motorable year around. But from December to February the snow may course road blockage.

Mt. Everest Area 
Early May and early October are the ideal time to visit Mt. Everest. Because of its clear weather, you might have the opportunity to see Mt. Everest’s real look. From December to February, we suggest you should not go to this area because it is too cold.

Mt. Kailash
The ideal time to visit Mt. Kailash is from the month of May to October. After the month of October the area is already becomes inhospitable and don’t mention the bad climate conditions. Heavy rain and big snow could make the trip worse.

Eastern Tibet 
Please don’t make any plan for travelling in this area in July or August (the rainy season). The heavy rain could ruin the road, and make serious landslides.

Northern Tibet 
Due to the average altitude of 4,500m, this area provides very limited time for tourists. Summer (July to August) is the best time to enjoy the great plain in northern Tibet.
